Hi, I’m Lou, and I will be blogging about children’s publishing from the writer’s point of view, children’s books, reading in general and also my interactive story!
I will be sharing with you my database of UK children’s publishers who still accept from the slush pile, and also which writing conferences I have attended and if they are worth the time and money, not to mention the nerves (trying to pitch a book in 3 minutes does strange things to the heartbeat!).
I will also write about my submissions experiences. Which publishers have a human face? And which are more like a blank wall? Who are the boomerang publishers (manuscripts arrive back so quickly it’s like they’re on elastic) and who are the hoarders (they love slush piles so much they want to sit and stroke them forever)?
The good news is, there are still publishers out there who want good books. EVERY publisher is looking for good writing. You just have to produce it and get it to the right person. Sounds simple, doesn’t it?
